Meet Alicia

"Sometimes, courage is having an honest conversation with ourselves."

Alicia Prescott is a Master-certified and experienced counsellor with an online private practice. Alicia is currently working with single women who require dating support in preparation for marriage or are healing from abuse. She received her Masters Degree in Counselling from Murdoch University and her Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Singapore Management University.

Prior to working in private practice, Alicia was a senior practitioner for a family violence service, and a family and children's counsellor.  In addition to victims of domestic violence, Alicia has worked with hundreds of male perpetrators of domestic violence through Men's Behaviour Change Programs, providing mandatory counselling, family court assessments and reports, in and out of prison.  She was also an adjunct lecturer and tutor in the Master of Counselling programs at Murdoch University and Notre Dame University.  Alicia has delivered numerous professional development trainings to allied health workers and was a guest panelist for a Gender Equality event by the United Nations Association of Australia WA Inc.  She is enthusiastic about helping beginning counsellors develop a solid understanding of domestic violence, regardless of whether they want to specialise in the field.

She later went on to work for a Singapore-based online counselling agency, mainly with women who were either recovering from dating ordeals, or preparing for married life and motherhood.  She also provided much needed support in developing safety procedures for online counselling where domestic violence has been identified, and was called upon to provide specialised counselling and reporting for sexual harassment cases in companies.

Alicia creates a space where women feel safe to discuss and create change for themselves in relationships. Alicia partners with her clients to help them find the strength and resiliency to cope with challenges in dealing with loved ones.  She brings with her a thorough understanding of abuse within intimate relationships and is passionate about helping young women date and marry as safely as possible through counselling support.

Alicia's therapeutic approach is narrative and response-based.  She prioritises respect and strength-finding, while having a realistic view of systemic oppressions and generational misunderstandings.  She believes strongly that women have the power to create change within themselves to help them cope with things that are not within their control, and that the ability to do this with dignity and grace has lasting effects on the people we spend our lives caring for, our children and other young people we love.

Alicia grew up in Singapore, and has studied in Auckland, New Zealand, New York City and Perth, Western Australia.  She is a homeschooling mum, and loves cooking food from scratch, gardening and watching the stars.
